Usual Oral TID Dose

Daily Dose: 80-90 mg/kg/day

Maximum daily dose: 4000 mg/day (adult is 3000 mg/day)

Dosing Frequency: PO divided TID (BID dosing (see below) is only for otitis media or GAS pharyngitis)

Note

  • Treatment of pneumonia, sinusitis or other indications should be with a three times a day (TID) dosing schedule.
  • Since the half-life of amoxicillin is one hour, a TID schedule will achieve higher levels for a more prolonged period of time.
  • Although TID dosing for AOM can also be used, BID dosing of amoxicillin has been approved for treatment of uncomplicated acute otitis media.

Acute Otitis Media Oral BID Dose

Daily Dose: 80-90 mg/kg/day

Maximum Daily Dose: 4000 mg/day

Dosing Frequency: divided BID for AOM; could divide TID depending on preference

Group A Streptococcus (Streptococcus pyogenes) pharyngitis BID or OD dosing

Daily dose: 50 mg/kg PO OD

Twice Daily dose: 25 mg/kg BID

Maximum Daily Dose: 1000 mg/day
