Gram negative coccobacilli

Increasing incidence in pre-teen and teenage years due to waning immunity

Whooping cough or prolonged coughing spells in older children

Apnea and hypoxic episodes in neonates

PCR test of nasopharyngeal swab is the test of choice.

Precautions can be discontinued after 5 days of appropriate antimicrobial therapy.
