Pneumococcal Vaccines

Key Messages

All adults should receive annual influenza vaccine⁽¹⁾⁽²⁾ with particular importance in individuals with a history of prior pneumonia, underlying structural lung disease, immunocompromise or chronic medical conditions.

If PPSV‐23⁽²⁾ is given first, a year should elapse before giving PCV‐13⁽²⁾⁽³⁾ for those who are candidates for dual vaccination.

If prior history of pneumococcal vaccine is not known and a patient qualifies, vaccination should be provided with documentation of this administration.

Depending on risk group, patients should receive either single or dual vaccination (see below).
