Cefepime is non-formulary at MSH.

Common Usage

Broad spectrum antimicrobial with gram positive and gram negative coverage including Pseudomonas.

Used especially nosocomial infections involving resistant organisms

Adverse Effects

  • Allergy (immediate & delayed)

  •  Positive Coombs

  •  Cytopenias

  •  Non-convulsive status epilepticus (resolves with discontinuation of cefepime)

  •  Elevated liver function tests

  •  Prolonged PT/PTT

  •  Infusion related reactions, including red man syndrome have been reported

  •  Headache
