Fever

Definition

Single oral temperature measurement of ≥38.3°C (101°F) or a temperature of ≥38.0°C (100.4°F) sustained over a 1-h period

Use of axillary temperatures is discouraged, because they may not accurately reflect core body temperature

Rectal temperature measurements should be avoided during neutropenia to prevent colonizing gut organisms from entering the surrounding mucosa and soft tissues
