Re-infection with pinworms occurs frequently. Prevention should be discussed when treatment is given. Infected patients should bathe or shower in the morning as bathing removes a large portion of the eggs.
Hand hygiene is the most effective method of prevention. Bed linens and underclothing of infected children should be changed frequently, handled carefully and laundered promptly.
Repeated infection should be treated by the same method as the first infection. All household members should be treated as a group in situations in which multiple or repeated symptomatic infections occur.
