General Information

Slowly fermenting gram negative rod, of the Enterobacteriaceae family

  • Widely distributed in the soil and water and part of the human GI flora, especially in hospitalized patients
  • Infection is usually in a nosocomial setting.

Nosocomial infections:

  • UTI,
  • Wound infections
  • Pneumonia (HAP)
  • Intra-abdominal infections

May require contact precautions if multi-drug resistant
