Precautions

Droplet / Contact Precautions

General Information

Communicable 2 days before to 5 days after onset of swelling.

Incubation period is 12-25 days after exposure.

Mumps exposure: Droplet precautions should begin 10 days after first contact and continue through 26 days after last exposure.

Confirmed Mumps: Precautions are required until 5 days after onset of parotid swelling. Mumps Exposure in susceptible patients: Droplet/contact precautions from 10 days after the first contact (exposure) through 26 days after last exposure to index case.
