General Information

Fastidious organism that does not Gram stain - an "atypical".

  • Atypical pneumonia
  • Guillane-Barre Syndrome
  • Meningoencephalitis
  • Reactive arthritis
  • Myocarditis

Chlamydophila pneumoniae specimens are tested by a PCR – Polymerase Chain Reaction test that detects Mycoplasma pneumoniae and Chlamydophila pneumoniae.

The PCR is >99% specific.
