Pathogen information

Gram negative bacilli that have potential to produce "broad-spectrum" beta-lactamases that can hydrolyze penicillins and cephalosporins.

Epidemiology

Most ESBL producing organisms are nosocomially encountered, are GI flora and are part of the Enterobacteriaceae family.
