Anaerobic Gram positive bacillus

Clostridium difficile infection can be community-acquired or nosocomial, often associated with prior receipt of antimicrobials.

  • Profuse, watery diarrhea

  • Pseudomembranous colitis or toxic megacolon.

Oral vancomycin is superior to metronidazole in treatment of C. difficile infection.
