General Information

Anaerobic gram negative bacillus

Normal flora of mouth, gastrointestinal tract, female genitourinary tract.

  • Head and neck infection including Lemierre's syndrome (septic jugular thrombosis) associated with F. necrophorum bacteremia and metastatic abscesses

  • Dental abscesses

  • Peritonsillar abscesses

  • Empyema

  • Intra-abdominal abscess

  • Diabetic foot infection

  • Bacteremia

Bacteremia with F. necrophorum should prompt thorough investigation for septic thrombophlebitis (Lemierre's syndrome)
