Prophylaxis/treatment of bite wounds

Polymicrobial infections of the respiratory tract or abdomen

Drug Monitoring

For prolonged therapy monitor liver enzymes and function

Adverse Effects

  • Diarrhea

  • Allergy/rash (immediate or delayed)

  • Cytopenias

Note: EBV-related rash - not an allergy (morbilliform rash occurring 48 hours to weeks after initial amoxicillin exposure in patients with Epstein Barr Virus does not appear to be a true drug allergy)

Hepatotoxicity due to clavulanate - usually mild, liver failure is rare

Major Interactions

Allopurinol, methotrexate, mycophenolate, warfarin, some vaccines
