Normal flora and important cause of invasive disease, often vaccine preventable

  • Community-acquired pneumonia
  • Bacteremia
  • Meningitis

Rarely:

  • Endocarditis
  • MSK

Droplet precautions for first 24 hours after initiation of effective antimicrobial therapy.

Invasive pneumococcal disease is a reportable disease.
