General Information

Prophylaxis/treatment of bite wounds

Polymicrobial infections of the respiratory tract or abdomen

Skin and soft tissue infections

Pregnancy: Amoxicillin/clavulanic acid may be associated with NEC in the newborn if given near delivery in the setting of PPROM.

Breastfeeding: Compatible.

For prolonged therapy monitor liver enzymes, CBC

Hepatotoxicity due to calvulanate- usually mild, liver failure is rare

Allergy/rash (immediate or delayed), cytopenias, diarrhea. Note EBV related rash

Increased risk of rash with allopurinol

Consideration of transition from Piperacillin-Tazobactam to IV Amoxicillin-Clavulanate in select cases will be undertaken in conjunction with Antimicrobial Stewardship
