General Information

Therapy of Streptococcal and Enterococcal infections as well as susceptible gram negative infections.

Commonly used for upper respiratory infections and urinary tract infections.

Tier 1 Antimicrobial

  • Narrow spectrum, possible transition for discharge, IV to PO
  • Strategy: Total EBM duration set (inpatient and outpatient)

Renal, hepatic and hematological function with prolonged use

  • Allergy/rash (immediate or delayed)
  • Note EBV related rash
  • Cytopenias

Allopurinol - increased rash
