Unacceptable Uses

Complicated UTI, bacteremia, pyelonephriris, urosepsis

The Beers Criteria recommends avoiding use in geriatric patients ≥65 years with a CrCl <30 mL/minute

Common Usage

Uncomplicated cystitis in females with normal renal function

Adverse Effects

Interstitial pneumonitis and fibrosis especially with prolonged use.

Peripheral neuropathy.

Major Interactions

Antacids decrease absorption
