Pathogen information

Small Gram negative bacillus, encapsulated or not (not encapsulated=non-typeable)

Epidemiology

Normal respiratory flora.

Since effective vaccine, most invasive disease is caused by non-typeable strains.

Associated syndromes

Colonizer of the upper respiratory tract

May cause invasive disease including:

  • Meningitis

  • Pneumonia/empyema

  • Bacteremia

  • Epiglottitis

  • MSK infection

  • Others
