Dosing

IV, PO: 2-5 mg/kg/DAY divided q12-24h. Max dose 200mg/DAY

Use caution in children <8 years of age due to risk for tooth enamel hypoplasia and permanent discolouration of the developing teeth

General Information

Skin and soft tissue infection, Methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus infections, community acquired pneumonia, Malaria prophylaxis, Zoonoses

  • GI upset and erosive esophagitis

  • Photosensitivity rash

  • Teeth staining

Divalent cations - decreased absorption.

Avoid iron, magnesium, calcium and dairy products for at least one hour before or two hours after doxycycline administration

Antimicrobial class: Tetracycline

Average serum half life:

  • No data for pediatrics.

  • Adults: 12 to 15 hours (usually increases to 22 to 24 hours with multiple dosing)

Route of Elimination: In the urine (23%) and feces (30%)
