Enterococcus faecium can often be found in gastrointestinal or genitourinary flora

  • Urinary tract infection
  • Infective endocarditis
  • Line-associated blood stream infection
  • Intra-abdominal infections (often polymicrobial)
  • Prosthetic device infection

Patients with infections secondary to vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) or known to be colonized with VRE should be on contact precautions.
