  • Need repeat LP after 24-48 hours therapy to ensure sterility
  • MRI head should be performed during antibiotic course to ensure no complications of meningitis found
  • Consider repeat LP after 24-48 hours therapy to ensure sterility if patient not improving
  • MRI head should be performed during antibiotic course to ensure no complications of meningitis found
  • ONLY repeat LP after 24-48 hours in all cases of resistant S. pneumoniae
  • Consider imaging in all cases of acute bacterial meningitis (MRI/MRV/MRA) within 24-72 hours to look for signs of ischemia, thrombosis, or infarction
  • MRI head should be performed during antibiotic course if neurological complication suspected (regardless of etiology)
