Spectrum of Activity

Dosing

General Information

  • Mycobacterial infections
  • Endocarditis
  • Osteomyelitis
  • Prosthetic joint infections due to Staphyloccocus aureus

Always use in combination with other agents

  • Inducer of many CYP enzymes including 3A4, and 2C9. Review patients medications carefully.
  • Birth control is ineffective when taken concurrently with rifampin.

  • Basline and periodic LFTs

Clinical

  • Multiple drug interactions

PEI Pharmacare: Only covered under the HIV Drug Program, Catastrophic Drug Program & TB Drug Program

  • Nausea/vommiting, diarrhea
  • Abnormal liver enzymes
  • Rash (Steven-Johnson syndrome)
  • Myopathy
  • Should never be used as monotherapy
  • May discolour bodily secretions (yellow-reddish). Caution in contact lens wearers
