General Information

Facultative anaerobic non-lactose fermenting Gram-negative bacillus of the Enterobacterales order.

Normally found in the gastrointestinal tract of humans and animals, as well as the surrounding environment (e.g. polluted water, soil).

Global distribution. Transmission occurs usually through endogenous dissemination, with occasional person-to-person spread through contaminated fomites.

Nosocomial infections including:

  • Hospital-acquired pneumonia
  • Catheter-associated urinary tract infections
  • Wound infections
  • Central line-associated bloodstream infections
