Nonfermenting aerobic Gram negative bacillus

Ubiquitous, water-associated pathogen, easily selected for by the administration of non-antipseudomonal antimicrobials

Common in hospital environment

May be a colonizer of diseased airways and other sites

Important pathogen of generally nosocomial infections including:

  • UTI
  • Pneumonia - HAP/VAP
  • CNS
  • Intra-abdominal
  •  Bacteremia
  • Vascular catheter infection
  • Burns/wound infection
  • Osteomyelitis

Contact Precautions if resistant to ALL aminoglycosides
