General Information

  • Ampicillin or Penicillin
  • +/- Gentamicin

Never cephalosporins

Aerobic Gram positive bacilli

Usually causes infection in neonates, pregnant women, elderly, and immunocompromised patients.

Foodborne illness associated with deli meat, soft cheeses, unpasteurized milk, and others.

Often occurs in outbreaks.

  • Meningitis
  • Rhombencephalitis
  • FUO
  • Bacteremia
  • Self-limited gastrointestinal illness with diarrhea
  • Septic abortion/miscarriage/stillbirth

Infectious Disease consultation recommended to assist in evaluation/management.

Reportable disease (LACDPH).
