Dosing

Nonformulary for adult. Use Ceftriaxone instead (OK to use Ceftriaxone for SBP).

General Information

Formulary only for pediatrics. 2018 restricted to NICU only due to ongoing dire shortage.

Empiric therapy for:

  • ¬†Bacterial meningitis

  • ¬†Pneumonia (in combination with a macrolide)

  • ¬†Intra-abdominal infection including SBP

  • ¬†Musculoskeletal i.e. septic arthritis

  • ¬†Urinary tract infection

Long term: CBC and CMP weekly

  • ¬†Rash

  • ¬†Localized phlebitis at injection site

  • ¬†Allergy

  • ¬†Positive Coombs test

  • ¬†Neutropenia

  • ¬†Abnormalities in liver enzymes

  • ¬†Diarrhea

  • ¬†CDI

Prefer Ceftriaxone use in adults
